We are growth capital investment specialists, investing in EIS qualifying innovative and disruptive UK based growth stage, post-revenue technology companies (£1m+), where we can add significant value through applying and sharing the expertise our team has of founding, building, internationalising, and exiting companies.

For investors, we offer an opportunity to invest in a portfolio of actively managed growth stage technology companies, whilst benefitting from potential tax reliefs under the Enterprise Investment Scheme for investors investing through our EIS fund.

Since 2001 we have achieved an average 2.6 x ROI (excluding any tax reliefs) for investors with an average holding period of 4.5 years, and have invested in 34 EIS qualifying investee companies, made 21 exits and 1 partial exit.   Out of these 22 exits, 21 have been profitable and just 1 has made a partial loss. 

Looking at our current EIS Fund, we have achieved an average 2.7x ROI (excluding any tax reliefs) for investors with an average holding period of 4.5 years, and have invested in 15 companies, made 3 exits and 1 partial exit with all 4 exits having been profitable.

The funds most recent exit was in February 2021. Our investors’ holding in Fairstone was bought by a private equity group, with investors receiving an average return on investment of 4.7x (excluding tax relief).

Investment focus

The Committed Capital Growth EIS Portfolio Service offers investors the opportunity to invest on a into a portfolio of 8-12 actively managed, growth stage, post-revenue (£1m+) technology companies, whilst also benefitting from the availability of the generous tax reliefs afforded by the Enterprise Investment Scheme. 

Key team members

Steve Harris - CEO

 

Steve is CEO of Committed Capital and has spent over 20 years in investment and corporate development acting on takeovers, strategic alliances and fund raisings both as principal and agent.


Initially a Corporate Financier at HSBC, Steve became a Director in the Corporate Finance Department of Société Générale in London.


Later, as Head of Mergers and Acquisitions at PA Consulting, Steve developed the firm’s propositions in relation to post-merger integration and joint ventures.


In the early years of the internet, Steve was investment director at Antfactory, a start-up internet incubator, which grew to become one of the largest UK internet investment vehicles; he was also finance director of its investment banking division.


Steve holds an MBA from London Business School and a BA Hons in Modern History. Steve attended the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and was an officer in the British Army.

Tim Steel - Chairman

Tim is Chairman of Committed Capital and its Advisory Board.


Tim was Vice Chairman of Cazenove until early 2010 when he stepped down to pursue a portfolio career and work more closely with smaller developing businesses. He joined Cazenove in 1980 from Robert Fleming and became a partner in 1982. In 1983 he moved to New York as President of Cazenove Inc. He returned to the UK in 1989 and became Head of Institutional Broking in 1991. He was appointed Managing Director of Cazenove Fund Management Limited in February 2000 and subsequently became Chairman in April 2001. He was appointed to the main Board of Cazenove Group plc in March 2001.


Tim holds an Honours Degree in Philosophy and Law from Cambridge University. 

Else Thomson - Director – Head of Finance

Else is Head of Finance and acts as Investment Director with some of our portfolio companies and joined Committed Capital in 2005.


After qualifying as a chartered accountant with PWC, Else worked in the London corporate finance departments of Handelsbanken and then Islandsbanki, predominantly advising companies in the TMT and healthcare areas.


Else holds an Honours Degree in Natural Sciences from Cambridge University and is a Chartered Accountant.

Fairstone Ltd

Fairstone is an IFA consolidator using a technology platform and centralised back office to maximise efficiency.  It utilises a proprietary technology platform to streamline front and back office functions, underpinned by a robust compliance and regulatory framework.


Investors sold all of their holding in Fairstone in May 2016 at 1.9x ROI.


Some investors then re-invested and sold their new holdings in in Feb 2021 at 4.7x ROI.

Technology platform-based online trade finance provider.


In March 2015, investors realised a partial exit with a sale to a strategic buyer.  Investors realised an initial 2x ROI (excluding tax relief).

Konsilio

Konsileo is a new model commercial insurance broker using technology and data to improve operational efficiency to empower brokers and improve the customer experience. It delivers high quality, data derived, risk management and insurance advice to clients in a consistent, efficient way.


Living Map

Living Map is a leading provider of next-generation digital mapping and mapping services. The Company creates rich-content digital maps that can be defined and configured through its SaaS Platform, allowing the visualisation of data from multiple sources and integration of other applications in real-time.  


Pi-top

Pi-top is an award-winning manufacturer of computers, which you can build with your own hands, combining them with gamified and learn-to-code software, and are designed to make coding simple, affordable and fun. 


Seenit

Seenit provides a video collaboration platform allowing companies to capture, control, edit and curate User-Generated Content from selected contributors and influencers.  Seenit’s UGC video collaborative platform allows customers to produce efficient, high impact video at scale with distinctly different uses and outcomes.  


Smartology

Smartology Limited is an advertising technology company which provides a key distribution channel for some of the world’s largest brands across global premium media owners, including - The Financial Times, The New York Times, Reuters, The Economist, Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg and BBC.

Lightwave

A leading supplier of smart home solutions for the remote control and monitoring of light, heat, power and security through a wide variety of devices via only one app. It designs, develops and manufactures these devices and has recently launched Generation 2 which is part of the Apple HomeKit offering.

Saietta

Saietta Group is an established engineering company based in Oxfordshire. It specialises in propulsion motors for a broad range of electric vehicles (EVs) and has engineered break-through, patent-protected, axial-flux motor tech. It is branded AFT (axial flux traction) and is modular in design, meaning high and low voltage e-motor solutions can be provided from scooters to buses.
